Why IPS Empress2?
IPS Empress2 glass ceramic framework contains lithium disilicate crystals, a material and composition unique to dentistry. Through a dual controlled crystallization process the lithium disilicate crystals are at a level of 60 - 70% in the final restoration, making IPS Empress2 a strong and fracture-resistant material. The layered sintered glass ceramic utilized in an IPS Empress2 restoration contains fluorapatite crystals similar to the needle-like apatite crystals found in natural tooth structure. IPS Empress2 is three times the strength and toughness of IPS Empress.
Why was it Developed?
Questions on crowns and bridges was the #1 consumer concern for the many people who partcipated in June's Academy of; General Dentistry's Smile Line, a national program where consumers phone dentists whith questions. Additionally, 40% of adults 45-64 years of age are missing at least one of their upper front teeth*. The need for an esthetic, metal-free alternative is obvious. IPS Empress2 expands the indications and opportunities for the world's most popular metal-free alternative and provides three-unit, metal-free restorations.
