IPS Empress2 - The Materials:
Empress2 - InlayThe IPS Empress2 System is comprised of two new and distinctly different ceramic materials. The framework material of IPS Empress2 is composed of lithium disilicate, and fluorapatite ceramic used in the layering phase of the fabrication of the restorations. These new materials provide more than three times the strength of the original IPS Empress, thus expanding the indications for use. The NEW IPS Empress2 material provides strength and esthetics for single-unit crowns and three-unit bridges. The original IPS Empress material (a member of the Lucite Crystalline family) continues to be indicated for esthetic inlays, onlays, and veneers.

Indications:
IPS Empress - Original Materials:
Inlays
Onlays
Veneers
Single-unit anterior crowns.
IPS Empress2 - NEW Materials:
Single-unit crowns
Three-unit bridges.

Advantages & Benefits:
Empress2 - VeneerIPS Empress2 features an innovative formulation of lithium disilicate crystals and a layering ceramic comprised of sintered glass ceramic with fluorapatite crystals. This combination offers high wear resistance that is compatible with the patient's natural dentition. The layered ceramic also features optical properties similar to tooth structure with inherent fluorescence, opalescence and natural translucency. The results offer more natural restorations and a viable alternative for replacing missing teeth and tooth structure. Additionally, it allows all dental professionals and their patients to enjoy ideal esthetics while re-establishing form and function.
Advantages of IPS Empress2:
  1. Excellent translucency corresponding to natural teeth.
  2. High mechanical strength.
  3. Superior Opalescence/Fluorescence.
  4. Wear comparable to natural dentition.
  5. Low bacterial adhesion.
  6. Opacity (Framework Materials).
  7. Low/ultra low fusing ceramics.
  8. Controlled Crystallization.
  9. Pressability.
  10. Can be bonded as well as conventionally cemented.
  11. Abrasion resistance like that of natural teeth.
  12. Superior fracture toughness.
